At the October chapter meeting the chapter committee screened an FBI video on industrial espionage which was well received and highly rated by members. Peter presented an overview of the Seminar to members and was also delighted to be able to congratulate Tamer Hashem, CPP and Julius Fomban, CPP, PSP on passing the CPP Certification exam recently.
In September this year the Dubai Chapter was well represented at the ASIS International 61st Annual Seminar and Exhibits in Anaheim, California. Peter Page, CPP, Chapter Vice Chairman and John Cowling, Chapter Secretary & ARVP presented to a packed room on, ‘The Evolving Threat Environment in the Middle East; how it affects security operations’ while Priyanka Utham, our Chapter Women in Security representative together with her colleague Tim Williams presented, ‘The Next Steps in the Arab Spring’ to a rapt audience.
This was the first time that Dubai Chapter members had presented at a US Annual Seminar and it provided a unique opportunity to dispel some myths about living and working in Region 12A!
It afforded an ideal networking opportunity with the Chapter forging relationships with members from other chapters such as the UK and Victoria, Australia and it was also a chance to catch up with old friends from Dubai and Abu Dhabi chapters who have returned to the US.
The seminar was on a vast and truly incomparable scale alongside the Middle East conference and this was especially true of the President’s reception that involved dozens of gourmet food trucks (a memorable experience)!
