Chapter Meeting Nov 14 - SmallIn close collaboration with ASIS Dubai Chapter, Nedap hosted a learning session over breakfast beneficial to security professionals who are involved in any part of the process of designing and specifying systems to manage and support organizations’ physical security.

The objective was to share information and insights on the latest technological developments and trends that assist these experts in strengthening their knowledge base on physical security aspects.

This breakfast meeting was part of a number of learning sessions that were hosted throughout the Middle East.

On 17th Sep., 2014, ASIS Dubai Chapter 250 successfully organized a dinner meeting at Dusit Thani Hotel. The dinner meeting format was made possible through sponsorship from Cisco. The Dubai chapter takes this opportunity to thank our chapter member Ifty Hassan from Cisco for arranging this sponsorship.

Following the committee’s welcome address the members enjoyed a buffet dinner provided by the sponsor. The agenda included updates to the chapter’s website, women in security, young professionals, ASIS foundation’s award & scholarships, and news on ASIS achievements.  We were also honored with a distinguished guest, Mr Marius Strydom, CPP the Chairman of the Abu Dhabi chapter.

Mr. Peter Page, CPP (Secretary for Dubai chapter) was congratulated by the members for being awarded the ‘PCB Regional Award of Merit’. This award recognizes volunteer leaders, who dedicated their time, energy, and resources to the advancement of ASIS board certifications. Peter Page, CPP also leads the chapter’s certification sub-committee. Several members expressed their personal thanks to Peter for supporting their CPP study progress with one member stating that without Peter’s time and support he would not have achieved his CPP.

Sept 2014-2Mr. Ifty Hassan and Mr. Doug Fleming from Cisco were the meeting guest speakers. They presented on the topic of “Employee Safety on Global Scale”, and how Cisco provides their internal platforms and support enabling them to manage regional security concerns and interact with the internal and external stakeholders in the context of dynamic global situations.

Shreemen receiving certificate June 2014 - CopyOur long standing treasurer, Shreemen Prabhakaran recently decided to return home to Australia after many years of working in Dubai for Emirates Group Security.In recognition for his dedication and support for the chapter, including his many years as chapter treasurer, he was presented with a certificate of appreciation.

HE Abdulla Sultan Alfan Alshamsi, Assistant Undersecretary for Industrial Affairs opens 5th Middle East Security Conference and Exhibition.

12771140355_8b861e25fd_oOur own chapter Vice Chairman, John Cowling, was honored to be invited as conference chairman to welcome HE Abdulla Sultan Alfan Alshamsi, Assistant Undersecretary for Industrial Affairs as he delivered the opening speech to open the conference. HE was then presented with a token of respect and gratitude by ASIS President Richard E Widup, Jr., CPP and Senior Regional Vice President Mohammad Al Shammary.

This two day conference along with pre and post conference workshops provided ASIS members to enjoy educational and informative sessions as well as participate in networking events such as the Presidents Reception sponsored by Saudi Aramco.

Preparations are already underway for the 6th Middle East Security Conference and Exhibition to be held in Dubai during February 2015.

MEAC Feb 2014 - CopyWith the Middle East Advisory Council (MEAC) meeting prior to the 5th Middle East Security Conference and Exhibition, the Dubai and Abu Dhabi chapters were represented by Peter Page and Marius Strydom respectively. In addition, the Dubai Vice Chairman, John Cowling, was also present in his voluntary role as Assistant Regional Vice President.

Participants included representatives from all over region 12 including; Bahrain, Cairo, Dubai, Doha, Jeddah, Riyadh and Pakistan. The meeting chairman was Mohammad Al Shammary Senior Regional Vice President with support from ASIS headquarters senior management Susan Melnicove Vice President of Education and Peter Piazza, Vice President, Strategic Operations.

Matters discussed included alignment of chapter activities to the global 2014 objectives as well discussions on how the chapters can support each other with growth and certification study programs.

Increased participation with nationals in security management positions was also discussed with the Saudi Arabia chapters providing crucial insight into their achievements in this regard.

Feb 2014 Chapter meetingAs well as BSI’s Ahmad Al Khatib, General Manager Assurance and Testing presenting on ISO 27001, the Dubai chapters February meeting had a surprise guest; ASIS International’s global President Richard E Widup, Jr, CPP.

Following Ahmad’s presentation with a question and answer session on an overview of ISO 27001, Richard E Widup, Jr, CPP gave a short presentation on his strategic objectives for 2104. This was followed by a short questuion and answer session providing our chapter members with interaction with ASIS management at the most senior level.

Dubai chapter member, David Fisk awarded complimentary registration at 5th Middle East Security Conference.

Following a call of applications, the chapter committee awarded a complimentary registration to David Fisk, a locally based security professional and chapter member.

David’s application was assessed as the most comprehensive and compelling with his attendance at the conference complementing his prior registration in the post conference Certified Protection Professional (CPP) training workshop.

The committee wishes David as he prepares for his Board certification as a CPP.

2014 Committee elections announced.

Following the election nominations, the 2013 chapter committee was re-elected after no additional nominations were received by the Elections Officer, Bruce Wienand.The 2014 chapter committee is as follows;

Dubai chapter member, Mirza Hussain, CPP is awarded Alan J Cross scholarship.

The Dubai chapter congratulates Mirza Hussain,CPP for being awarded the Alan J Cross scholarship for 2014.

The Allan J. Cross Award pays the registration fees for 20 ASIS members to attend an ASIS certification review course of their choice. Cross Award winners may select an online CPP, PCI, or PSP certification review course. Mirza selected the PSP certification review course to complement his CPP Board certification.
