On Monday 18th May 2015, the Dubai chapter of ASIS International held is monthly meeting at Emirates Training Center. With numerous security professionals in attendance, chapter sponsor and well-known local cyber security professional Kris Murphy of GRC presented on the subject of cryptography and subsequent encryption techniques.

Following his presentation, Kris demonstrated the ‘Scytale Lite ’ mission critical communication solution, which allows the user to carry in a backpack a telecommunications system that includes telephone, data and internet capabilities. This type of system is often deployed for disaster relief and remote operations when communications is required.

Feb 2015 chapter meetingWe are proud to receive our global president, Dave Tyson, CPP as our special guest speaker at our February chapter meeting which was held to coincide with the ASIS 6th Middle East Security Conference & Exhibition.

Dave Tyson, CPP warmly greeted our members and provided an overview of his vision and mission for 2015. As a result of the generosity of the conference organizers, members received complimentary exhibition registration as part of the chapter meeting. Members who during 2014 were awarded an ASIS International Board certification including CPP and PSP were personally congratulated by Dave Tyson, CPP and received a certification lapel pin.

Dubai chapter chairman awarded 10th years of service certificate by global president

Following ten years as the Dubai chapter chairman and foundation member ,Dr Abdullah Al Hashimi was awarded a ten year certificate by our global president, Dave Tyson, CPP. This prestigious honor was awarded during the opening ceremony of the ASIS 6th Middle East Security Conference & Exhibition.

Following a successful Intersec, the international security and safety exhibition in which ASIS International displayed with representatives from both Dubai and Abu Dhabi chapters; the Intersec organizers provided the VIP room for use by the Dubai chapter to hold our January chapter meeting.

Members from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Pakistan and USA attended the meeting with a short presentation.

Yogesh at ASIS 2015 conferenceThe Dubai chapter is pleased to announce that Yogesh Arora has been awarded the ‘Alan J Cross’ for 2015 award by the ASIS Foundation. Yogesh is the Group Security Manager for Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group which are a multi-divisional conglomerate with 23 companies.  Yogesh manages security across their range of diverse product and business interests that predominantly include retail, building and construction, industrial and joint ventures.  Yogesh has been a regular attendee at the Dubai chapter’s CPP study group and he intends to use the Allan J Cross Award to enhance his preparation in his pursuit to attain CPP Board certification.

About the award

The Allan J. Cross Award pays the registration fees for 20 ASIS members to attend an ASIS certification review course of their choice. Cross Award winners may select an online CPP, PCI, or PSP certification review course. 2015 chapter elections held at December 2014 meeting

Dubai chapter (250) of ASIS International held its December meeting last night (Wednesday) 10th December at the Emirates Training College during which the Annual General Meeting was held with voting by the members for the 2015 chapter committee. The election process held in accordance with the ASIS International procedures resulted in Dr Abdullah Al Hashimi, retaining his position as Chairman, Peter Page, CPP being elected as his Vice Chairman, Sufyan F H Abbas, retaining his position as Treasurer and John Cowling being voted in as Secretary.

Dec 2014 meetingAppointments for 2015 included Phillip Johnson accepting the position of Chairman of the certification sub-committee, Mirza Hussain, CPP returning as the Young Professional Chapter Liaison and new appointment of Priyanka Utham as our chapter’s Women in Security (WiSE) representative.

Following the elections a presentation was given on the international risk management standard ISO 31000 and its relevance to identifying and managing threats to assets when conducting a security review.

We wish the 2015 committee all the best for the new year and I look forward to seeing you all again at the January meeting.

We are pleased to announce that Phillip Johnson our chapter member and 2015 chairman of the Dubai chapter’s certification sub-committee has, this December 2014, attained Board certification as a Physical Security Professional (PSP).
